Healthy

Nope this is not about Weight Watchers. The other day I was getting Josh's lunch ready and being quite lazy. I didn't want to put a healthy snack in just a quick one. He saw what I was putting in and said, "Mom, I don't like those.".
I looked down and said, "Fruit snacks? Spider man fruit snacks?".
Josh, "Yep.".
Me, "What don't you like about them?".
Josh " I don't like the way they taste, and they're not healthy for you either.


Me: Dumbfounded look on my face!
So there you have it from a 7 year old boy.
WE SHOULD EAT THINGS THAT ARE HEALTHY FOR US!!!!

True Knoxvillian

We were playing at the park with some friends the other day and Holly comes up to me and says, "Mom, where do I live?". I told her you live in Knoxville, she proudly walks back to the three older boys she had been talking to and says, "See, I told you, I don't live in Tennessee, I live in Knoxville!". The other mother and I just laughed.

Spring has sprung!

Spring is definitely here in Tennessee. I am a little nervous to see how hot it will be this summer, because it warmed up so fast here. All the trees are blooming. One day when we were driving I told the kids look at all the popcorn on the trees. We happily sang Popcorn Popping. On the way back from where ever we were going Holly said, "Mom, those aren't popcorn, those are flowers!" Can't get nothing past that kid!

These are my poor little daffodils in my planter box that needs a little more love.

This next picture has my tulips starting to poke up. Yes, these are my free tulips that I got earlier this year. I got dirt this weekend to fill by garden boxes and I had leftover so I put some in our front flower bed. I planted peas last week in the garden and I hope to plant a few more things this week. I love this time of year!

New vocabulary to add to your dictionary.

Okay before the vocab lesson, Holly has started saying Silly Ol' _____. Silly Ol mommy, Silly Ol Josh. I guess she watched too much Winnie the Pooh, but I don't remember her watching it all that often. Once every six months. Hmmm.



We have the kids clear their plates. Every night I would look at Holly and say put it in the dishwasher. She would get up, take the seven steps into the kitchen and say, "Dishwasher or sink?". I started telling her that she needed to use her mind. A couple of weeks later she figured it out on her own and she proudly proclaimed, "Mommy, I losing my mind!". Just for fun we make her say it often.



Did you know that these are your glashes. On day Holly come up to me pointing to her eye lashes and said, "Mom, Jesus gave me my glashes!". I had her repeat herself so I could tell exactly what she said. Yes GLASHES .

And these are your armhits. One day when Holly was taking her shower I told her don't forget to wash your armpits and left the bathroom. When I came back to check on her she gave me the run down of everything she washed including her ARMHITS.

Santa Baby

We went to the mall to visit Santa. Holly has decided very late in the game that she wants a teddy bear and dress-up clothes. I knew about the dress-up clothes, but this teddy bear thing came out of now where. What gives? Josh had no problem rattling off EVERYTHING that he wanted. This was a wonderful Santa he was very patient and answered all questions including "Where are you reindeer?", Josh noticed that there were no reindeer in sight at the mall.

Some of the kids favorite christmas songs: Josh, Frosty the Snowman. Holly, Santa Baby. (but she sings it Santa Clauses baby. "Hey mom, why is Santa Clauses baby coming going down a chimney?".

Wow that's fast

One of our primary kids advanced to young mens. Holly is sad because it is the boy she has a crush on and she won't see him as much. (I think the eight year difference would stand in their way anyways).

We were talking about this on the way to church. Josh asked if that meant he was a dad now. I certainly hope not!

Mommy Joshie date

Where has the time gone! What happen to this little boy that fit in my arms not this boy that is getting too close to my shoulder!

Josh and Holly both had "Make good choices chart" when they made good choices they got a sticker. At the beginning they got to choose their reward. Josh wanted water colors and ice cream with mom. Holly wants a date with Daddy.

Josh and I had a hard time finding a water color with the book of pictures that wasn't girlie. He was really going for superheros, transformers or star wars. We did have great success with the ice cream. As we were eating ice cream I asked Josh why he is growing up so fast? I told him he better slow down or the next thing I would know he would be getting married and moving into his own house. All of the sudden he got really sad. "Mom I don't want to leave!" I tried to explain and thought I had done a good job until as we were walking to the car and he asked me "When will I have to have a new mom and dad?" I was like what! He said "You said I'd go to a new house, when will I have to go?" Tears started to form in his eyes. I was like forget I ever said anything. You will always be my Josh and you are stuck with me forever. Oh break my heart!

That was the drama of our date. The sweetness was when he asked if he could bring some of the M&M's that were in a cup (to go on the ice cream) home for Holly. That's my sweet boy. He still has a strong hold on my heart.

Learning my matters

The other day Holly told me that she is growing up, but she is still learning her matters. Not manners, but matters.

Last week on the way to church the kids were practising left and right. They told me which way to turn the whole way to church. (You know, because I haven't driven there all year).

So Holly is in the back and she is crackin' herself up. "Mom to be RIGHT, you have to go RIGHT! Haa-haa.

She thought this was hilarious.

Ahh, the beauty of discovering things all over again through your children.

Words of Wisdom

Holly and I are driving in the car. She is coloring in this book ( a color wonder) where the ink appears after you color it. There are different words and pictures that also appear. She was coloring in a Dora book. She was telling me that there was a word. She tried to sound it out and she couldn't get it. I told her to spell it out to me, but I couldn't figure it out. Because it was Dora I told her it must be Spanish. She thought about for a second and said, "No mom it's not Spanish, there is no S". So all Spanish words have S's in them. Now you know.





At dinner today Holly asked, "When are you going to have a baby?" I asked Holly if she had been praying for me to get pregnant. She said, "Yes, I want two more." I said 2! She said, "Yeah, one for Josh and I, don't worry mommy, we'd share." Isn't that kind of her.

Don and the kids were at the hobby shop last weekend. Holly asked, Daddy do you work on Saturdays. And Don said no. Holly said, "Mommy doesn't work on Saturdays, girls don't work any days." Don just laughed and didn't touch that one with a ten foot pole. He told she have to ask me about it.

I know Josh said some funny things too this week, but I can't recall them. It is driving me crazy. Poor kid.

Ding, The light bulb came on

Josh, Holly and I were watching one of my old mission videos. At the end you see my friends and family waiting for me to get off the plane. Josh says, "Mom, are Oma and Opa your mom and dad?" I told him yes. He said, "Well what will you be when I am a dad?....Will you be an Oma or a grandma?" I told him yep. "Then what will I be after I'm a grandpa what happens when it is all over?". We talked about eternal life and how we can live with Heavenly Father again. It's nice when you can share your testimony and your son finally understands the family structure.

The best way to remember is teach someone else

I over heard Josh reading a book to Holly the other day. He was reading and when he got to the end of the sentence he said, "That's a period. It means that it is a statement". Any guess what they learned last week at school.

Fancy shoes AKA cha-cha shoes

Holly got these shoes a while back when they were way too big for her feet. We got them as hand-me-downs and she has loved them. I call them her cha-cha shoes, she calls them her fancy shoes. They are definitely the go to shoes for dressing like a princess. They have a little heel and they have sparkly hearts, with open toe that shows off your nail polish, plus a strap to keep them on! Does it get any better?



So the other day Holly says, "Mommy there is something wrong with my shoes!", I ask her what, she tells me, "My toes are hanging over." I stifle a laugh and tell her that she is getting older and bigger and that means her shoes will get to small. This caused much distress. She loves those shoes, so if you have any cha-cha, I mean fancy shoes that you no longer use send them our way.

Growing up

The other day on the way to church we were in the car when Josh says, "Mom, my hair on my arm is getting taller, I'm almost a dad." Josh associates being older as being a dad, even though I have told him you don't have to be a dad to be older. And I guess he associates having arm hair with being older too. Interesting.

I just dream of my Knight in Sharping Armour

Josh doesn't say the knight, he says Knight in Sharping Armour. I have tried to tell him that it is Shining Armour. But I have stopped correcting him, because I think it is so cute.



Don let the kids have Kool Aid (which is a first) our poor deprived kids. It was purple/ grape flavor. When we asked Josh what it tasted like he said like grape and medicine, which to him is yummy. Is that bad, that my kids love medicine?

Underwear-bowl?

I told Holly that she looked adorable today. She said, "Thanks, Mom....... What does underwear bowl mean". Big smile on my face. I wonder what she thought I was calling her or what underwear bowl means to her. Hmmm.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate

I was reading Holly her story before nap time and I was sitting on her bed. You know how your stomach gets the bulge when you are sitting and leaning over your body. Well, Holly stops me from reading to ask what I had in my shirt. I told her it was my tummy. She started to giggle and say not-ah. "Mommy what do you have in your shirt?" I told her it was my tummy. "What is in your tummy?" I told her it was fat. She starts giggling again like I am just waiting to share some big secret with her. I told her seriously it is fat. She looks at me unbelieving and asks, "Do you have a baby in their?". I tell her no it isn't a baby, it's peanut butter and chocolate. That seem to satisfy her. By the way, I love peanut butter and chocolate!

Tender moments

Josh had his first day of school today. Last night Don gave Josh a fathers blessing. It was a very spiritual and sweet moment for our family, I totally cried. Before hand we had talked about the special gift of the priesthood that our Heavenly Father has given us. How daddy could use the power to help others but not himself. After the blessing Josh gave Don a big hug.

Fast forward to today after Josh is at school and Holly and I were at home. Holly said that she was Ariel and she and Eric were in a meeting in New York (her bed). Next time I looked in on her she told me Eric was going to give her a blessing because she was going to school tomorrow. So there she sat on the bed head bowed, and eyes closed. How cute is that.

A new label...Kids say

At nap time I always read a book to Holly. I always sit in this little chair. Well this day I sat down and shortly there after I was on the floor with broken chair under me (and yes, I am still doing Weight Watchers and maintaining my 45lb lost, thank you very much). Holly looks at me and says, "Mommy, it broke because your bottom is so big.". Totally straight faced. Thanks Holly.



So I decided to put a new label on my blog for Kids say (fill in the blank i.e. the craziest things).



The other day we were at our neighbors the Angels (our adopted grandparents). They had just made some blueberry muffins. Mr. Angel gave one to me and one to Holly and offered Josh one. Josh not loving fruit said no thank you. Well later Mr. Angel laughingly told me that Josh came back and asked, "Mr. Angel can you pick the blueberries out of a muffin?". Mr. Angel regretfully told him no, he said that he felt bad for Josh.



When Holly was asked by Don this morning if she would rather have candy or blueberries, Holly answered, "Blueberries". Don wants to know what is wrong with our daughter.
