Garden Week 2

So here is me garden in week 2. There has been progress. Yeah. Box #1 my watermelon have come up.

Box #2 My corn is doing great and some of my lettuce has made an appearance, though it is hard to see in this picture, you'll have to word on it.

Box #3 My Sweet Peas are loving life. I put out these sticks and a red wire fence for them to climb and they are going to town. My cucumbers are just slightly taller and I put a red wire fence out for them as well. Some of my carrots have finally made an appearance and I am pretty sure that I have some zinnias. I hope they are not weeds. My beets are going strong, hopefully the soil will be loose enough for my beets and carrots.

Box #4 I finally saw (what I hope is not weeds) some bell peppers that I planted from seed pop up. Most of my onions are up and a few of my green onion are coming up, but they are so delicate you can't really see them here, yet.

Box #5 My tomatoes are doing fine. no big changes.

Box #6 A bunch of my honeydew (in the back) has come up. I put out a red wire fence for them to climb on. My potatoes have all poked threw. I am way excited. I noticed my Oregano, Basil and Dill have poked up as well though the dill is the only on that seems to be getting bigger. Hmmm.

Box#7 My Bush Beans are getting taller, my replanted Broccoli has come up and my replanted Zucchini has come up, and I also put out some stuff for them to climb as well. (we'll see if it works).

Box #8 My corn it is beautiful. My neighbor told me today that the squirrel like to steal it once it is done growing. How do you stop that from happening, besides getting a dog?

Oh and my cute little berry bushes. Closest to the garden(which is hard to tell is not part of the middle one) is a blueberry, next is a different type of blueberry (supposedly you have to have 2 different kinds for them to cross pollinate) and then we have a raspberry bush.

Hollly's first graduation

(Holly in a soccer relay, tossing a ball in a bucket, hitting a balloon relay, doing the bunny hop in go and freeze, and getting her medal at the end. She was just a bit excited!)

I almost forgot. Holly also had graduation this week from our co-op preschool. First we had a field day, where the kids got to do a couple of relays. (All the schools do this at the end of the year).

After the field days they got the graduation certificates and ate pizza. Which was closely followed by playing at the playground. Does life get any better?

Summer schedule

Being the crazy women that I am I have made a summer schedule. When you open our school/art/game closet, there above the "I made good choices charts" there are monthly calendars showing all the cool stuff we plan to do. About two weeks ago I sat down with the kids and asked them; what would they like to do this summer. Holly started off with playing outside. i thought this could be an easy summer. By the time the list was done there was swimming (anyone that has a pool please invite us over), going to the zoo and a museum (Josh loves Night at the Museum), seeing movies and about 15 other items. I told them we might not do them all, but we would try to have as much fun as possible.

Now most people would not think that you could schedule fun, but for me not to have a schedule

DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! I would love to be spontaneous, but it just doesn't work for me, I've tried.

So above our monthly calendars there are daily schedules a plan a and plan b for what we will do through the day. That way we can still do chores, school time and (a new one) mommy time. I feel like i am constantly telling my kids I can't play with them right now, or mommy just has to get one more thing done. So I am making sure that I don't miss time with them. i have put special time with just them to do whatever they want to do (within reason) each day. I hope I do keep this up. On Friday Holly wanted to play cooking and Josh wanted to play games. They both thought it was super cool.

Now the last list above that is a list of different ideas of activities to do to teach them English, writing and math. I know it is alot, but it brings peace to my life.

A busy week

This week seems to be a busy week. Looking back I don't think that we were really running all that much. I did add two extra walking times a week with my friend Brenda. Holly and I did got to an award ceremony where Josh got an award for reading. Josh had his last day of school and graduated kindergarten. Josh, Holly, and I met our friend Zoe and her sister and mom at the Bounce House. We had our friend Mabel over to run threw the sprinklers. It just seems like we were always moving.

We went to a special open house at Josh's school about reading. We (Don, Josh, Holly and I) went and got to go Josh's classroom. His teacher was in charge. Josh and Holly each got a book to take home. It was nice for Don and I to get to talk to Josh's teacher. She was going on and on about how wonderful Josh was and how she wished she had more students like him. What parent doesn't like to hear that? Then we got the best surprise. She asked if we wanted to see his latest score on the reading scale. He is at a "M" reading level. That is a beginning 4th grade reading level. Don was so proud. He went over to Josh and got the tour of the classroom. (I also scored on so material to do homework with Josh during the summer).

I had to leave to go teach a demo at church, but Don, Josh, and Holly got to stay for ice cream sandwiches. Josh told me a couple of days later, that daddy said he was really smart. When I asked him how did that make you feel, after thinking a few moments he said, "Really Happy! Daddy loves me."

Garden Week 1

I want to watch the progress of my garden so I plan to take pictures every one to two weeks. If you are not interested in this just look at the first picture, that's the over view. This is mainly for me, I mean not everyone wants to look at a bunch of pictures of someones veggie garden. I on the other day go out to my garden everyday and say "HI" to my plants ( Yes, I actually talk to the plants, they are a living thing, but not too loudly, I don't want the neighbors to think I am totally nuts!). I swear each plant grows tons over night. It is still early in the session, so I am way excited about everything, lets see how I do at the end of the session. Okay on with the tour.

This is Box 1, I planted it last you can barely, okay you can't really see anything, but it will grow just you wait!

This is Box 3, I'm not sure what happened to number 2 (it was also planted a week after everything so there was nothing to see). This box has the Cucumbers, doing very nicely. The Zinnias have decided to pop up a bit, no carrots, but the sweet peas and beets there are many.

This is box 4, it has bell peppers that I did from seed (that have not come up and I am thinking of getting more plants) and 3 bells that I bought. It also has my Onion sets and Green onions I did from seed.

This is box 5, my tomato and marigold box. I started all my tomatoes from seed indoors, I have had to replace a few of them with others I started. My neighbor who has had a garden for the last 15 years gave me the tomatoes in the 8 pack. He had some random tomatoes that came from last years plants and he gave me four. I was waiting to plant them when they got bigger. I am not sure why because they are already bigger than mine. Here is an extreme close up of my tomato plant.

This is box 6, there are only 8 boxes so we are almost there. It has Honeydew melon (from indoor seed) in the back, potatoes in the next row, banana peppers (started indoors) next and then spices in the front. Only my Basil and Oregano has made an appearance there.

Box 7, it has Bush beans I planted from seed out doors, Broccoli that I started indoors and transferred outside that are looking sad,(so I planted some more outside) and zucchini that I started inside and transplanted then died on me so I planted some more outside.

Box number 8, has Corn lots of corn. I didn't know that you only get 1 or 2 ears off of each plant. Now thinking back I wished that I had planted 1/2 now and 1/2 in 2 or 3 weeks. It would have lasted longer. Oh well, a note for next year.
